My Camino Packing List

Hello, everyone! Thanks for checking out my travel blog. :) I'm going to discuss briefly what I plan to do on this blog, and then below that I'll cover my initial packing setup for the Camino.

First, about the blog. I'm going to try to write a blog post every day, as a way for me to both record memories and share my trip with friends and family. I'll try to include photos as well, since I know some folks especially want to see those. Some days might be pretty short, though!

Now, as for my packing. Here's what I packed!
But since that's a little hard to see, I've also made an annotated version:
1) Rain cover. Since I'm going in October, there's a good chance of rain along parts of the route, and this will keep my pack dry(er).
2) Puffy blanket. This is a bit of a splurge in terms of weight and size, but since Octobers can get cold and I don't enjoy sleeping while I'm chilly, I decided to bring a packable blanket.
3) My main walking shoes. They aren't waterproof, which I may regret, but I've been wearing this same model for about a year and really like them.
4) Plastic Sandals. These are for showering, wearing around albergues (Camino hostels) that don't allow outdoor shoes, and to have a second option to walk in.
5) Small travel towel. For towel purposes.
6) Wind shell. I went back and forth on this, but it was on sale at REI and was light. My hope is that this will combine with my fleece to make a warm, wind-proof Setup.
7) Long-sleeve hiking shirt.
8) Short-sleeve hiking shirt.
9) Sun hat.
10) Zip-off pants/shorts. Dorky? Yeah. But the weather forecast looks like I'll want pants most of the time, but shorts occasionally, so this lets me bring two pairs of pants and one pair of shorts for the weight of just two pairs of pants.
11) Sock liners. To help avoid blisters. Only one pair, but I may pick up another if they work well.
12) Prana Stretch Zion hiking pants. I wore these when hiking in the Cascades a bunch and loved them, so it was a no-brainer to bring them for this trip.
13) Fleece. My main warmth layer for when it's cold in the mornings.
14) Silk sleeping bag liner. For sleeping in albergues without having to worry about the sheet situation. Another item that I got a very good deal on at REI.
15) Sleep mask. I could probably have used my buff or a shirt to makeshift this, but I really like the feeling of a real sleep mask when I sleep.
16) Kindle. For reading. A lot of advice online said to just read on your phone to save weight, but I don't enjoy reading on a phone screen.
17) Underwear. Self explanatory.
18) Socks, all wool.
19) A buff. Many uses! Though I haven't used one before. Another REI sale purchase.
20) My hydration bladder.
21) A spare pair of glasses.
22) A headlamp. Another one where many people say to skip it and use your phone, but I had a little weight to spare and wanted to save my battery and I like my headlamp.
23) A spare battery. I went for a 10,000 mAh option, since that's what I've had for a long time and it's served me well. I did take this opportunity to buy a new one, however, as my old one can only charge via USB-mini, which is increasingly difficult to find these days.
24) A EUR/US plug converter, USB-C converter, and USB-C charging cable.
25) Earplugs. I bought a new set of Loop earplugs because the reviews said they were much more comfortable for side sleepers, which I usually am. We'll see if they end up being worth the upgrade.
26) Headphones. For listening to audiobooks or lectures when I don't want to read, or calling friends and family occasionally.
27) Various toiletries and prescriptions to let me breathe at night.

Not pictured are a light collared shirt I decided to take in order to have something that it would feel like I could relax my Fitbit and its charging cable*, and a UV-resistant light jacket I grabbed at the last minute. Might regret that last one. Plus various things that are always on my person, such as phone, wallet, passport, glasses, etc.

* My FitBit charger uses a USB charger, not USB-C. I don't have one of those, but I decided to bring it anyway and see how far I can get relying on the kindness of strangers to let me borrow a charger. I bought a charger that supports iPhones, so I'll be paying it forward. 😛
